Hi Will a 82 spirit drive shaft work in a 72 gremlin? I realize i will have to change the yoke but is the shaft itself the same length? Thank you.

Well, both cars have the 96 inch wheelbase. The 2 rear ends ( the 6 cyl and V8) require different lengths, which trans you have?

The spirit was a 6 cyl 5 speed. The gremlin is a factory v8 3 speed.

Eights and six's are different length. I don't remember which is shorter. OR could it be that using a T-10 is the difference?

The model 20 for the Gremlin is about 1" longer snout IIRC than the 15 rear in the 6cyl cars.
I have an AX15 with Model 20 rear and I was able to get a nice aluminum driveshaft from the junk yard that fit perfectly. It was from a '96 Ford Explorer 2wd. So I'd look into that. You do need 1310 to 1330 conversion U-joints though which ups the price.
