Update - Rita's up on the lift...her torque tube is on one table and her tranny is on the other. What a pleasure to find a craftsman who looks at transmissions as works of mechanical art. Rita's transmission is getting a complete rebuild. The fellow who looked at it four years ago didn't do a real complete job on it, and, well...the tranny did last 4 years and 5,000 miles before it started to complain...which I guess is good enough for same folks, but I want this car to last another 49 years. There were some scorched clutches and worn sprags. The transmission guy is happy as a clam working on it. He said it's a joy to work on one of these old units again - like "old home week" as he cut his teeth on the Ford o Matics. Some Ford parts from his salvage transmissions are going in Rita, as well as things from the AMC vendors. He's also replacing the CV joint in the torque tube as it was leaking.

I'm anxious to hear how this works out and curious if you're in the valley of the sun or a different part of Arizona. Pretty soon I'll be needing to find a gray-haired mechanic that knows how to take care of a BW transmission and torque tube.

We are in Flagstaff. This is the shop we are using. http://www.trans-missionman.com/

There were some places in Phoenix that were recommended to me as back ups if I didn't find one up here to use. I can pass those on to you if (when) you want.
