Looking on Wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TorqueFlite

It seems that the were used on Jeeps after MOPAR quit using them on their products.  Which does not exactly give one a warm fuzzy feeling as to part swapping.

Chrysler started using lock ups in 1978. I think the 727 was used in Jeeps from 1980-91.

727 was used in GW till '91 (end of FSJ production) and 999 till 2002? in TJs. Valve body changes were made, so I would stick the valvebody that came with the case back in.

OK, simple eye exam: look at the pan. If it is square it's a 904/998. If it is square except has a "notch" extending out of one side it's a 727.
