About the "no firewall/no second floor needed" remarks... they did a LOT of things "back in the day" that we wouldn't do now. Like "spear-o-death" steering columns, and gas tanks in the trunk (or cab of trucks right behind the driver!). While they work fine, there are safer alternatives. My brother never moved the tank on his 53 Ford F-2 (behind seat in cab), and I wouldn't worry about changing a Mustang tank (he still has his 65 coupe with original tank, and a 63 Falcon... no firewall in either). But if you're going to track one of the cars or use it as a true daily driver, I'd seriously consider it. Chance of needing it goes up with how often (and how) it's used. A weekend/fair weather car? Don't bother. You probably drive it real careful too, though it's the other guy in the new-20 year old car you're most worried about, not you...
