   If the dealer had a sunroof in a box, it was for replacement.  The dealers were not originally installing the fun in the sun sunroofs.  This free option had to be ordered at the time and came from AMC with the sunroof installed. It wasn't added later, after delivery.  Yes, it is possible that a dealer installed one but this was not the standard practice.
Special brackets were welded in at the factory to support the roof.  If you don't have these brackets, inside the headliner, then this would show that it was not done at the factory and was not ordered as a "fun in the Sun" car.
