Two distinct different mats and part numbers for Javelin and AMX in 68/69 yet in 1970, he lists the SAME mat for both AMX and Javelin, and it's a shorter looking mat than the ones shown in 68/69......

Bill
I Looked them up in my factory parts book and they list them the same way. (68-69 Javelin #360 7420), (68-69 AMX #360 7421) and (70 AMX & Javelin #363 9621).

Could it possibly be that for the AMX in '70 one simply trimmed about 12 inches or so off of the forward edge of the Javelin trunk mat ? |

This is probably due to the fact that you could have gotten a full size spare or a space saver spare (in the Javelins). The different spares were mounted in different locations in the trunk. This factored with the larger size trunk mat in 68-69 would have caused there to be two different mats. In 70 they used a shorter trunk mat so it was not necessary to use two different mats because the mat worked for both the full size spare and the space saver spare.

I got a fantastic reply right from Doug, at APD and it follows some of what's been said here, and Dennis confirms what Doug states:
> Bill,This is the first time I've gotten a response SO quickly, and in the middle of the busy season, too. I guess I know where my trunk mat is coming from................. Thanks guys. It's nice to have all the input, verification, etc. |

I received my trunk mat from APD. I took the tattered and worn and weathered original I had stored in the loft and laid it on top of the new one.
The size is almost exact, the new slightly larger but the old could have shrunk with age. Otherwise, color is the same as my original (amazing), size is for all practical purposes the same, cutouts match, etc. The only real difference is the texture. The new is flat without texture - "printed", I assume. The old/original is very textured more like a course fabric-like surface feel. So it's different material, but not too many folks will notice. It should look nice, and the price was good. |

the repros do look good and your assessment is correct on appearance. The negative is, in my experience, they don't last long before they become fuzzy/hairy if you actually lay stuff on them and "use" them.
