Well I sold the Rebel a few months ago and have since been wanting a project vehicle to work on. (Because working 60 hours a week at a ford dealership isn't enough LOL)

I was searching the internet for cheap projects, something that would make a good summer cruiser.  I was mainly looking for a 70's something Jeep.  I totally forgot about the fact that we had a Jeep just sitting in the back yard.  No it's not a 70's jeep, but it has some AMC heritage.  It's a 1992 YJ.

The story behind the Jeep:  My aunt owned a 83' Corvette that she drove on nice days only, this Corvette was her baby.  She bought the Jeep used in 1994 to drive in the Winter and rain.  6 years ago my aunt passed away after losing her battle with colon cancer.  My brother drove the jeep for 4 years.  In those four years the Jeep went down hill.  The transmission was trashed and the body banged up.

Here is how it looked when I began my project:

The first thing I tackled was rebuilding the automatic trasnmission:

All new clutch material and steels installed.

Pulled the engine out, will be rebuilding it back to stock.  Has a bit of a lifter type ticking, also had a large crack in the exhaust manifold.  Could be part of my issue.

Pretty nasty under the hood!

Hey Zach, You have some awesome tools there! I'm digging that dial indicator!
Are you just doing a stock restoration?

It's going to be a mostly stock restoration.  Not much is going to change.  Maybe a small lift, but right now it clears 31" tires with no problem and thats as big as i am planning on going.  My last project was a lifted truck and getting the steering components to work correctly was a chore.

The next thing I did was rip out the interior to see what kind of shape the floor pans were in.  Amazing shape except for the drivers floor, no suprise there.  Ordered a new floor pan and will be welding that in shortly.

I pulled off the side steps and fenders to see what type of rust there was to be fixed.  Definitely have a fair share of work in store.  Also found some nasty frame rail rot, but I should be ble to box the frame in that spot.

Rust repair comes next!  Please keep in mind that this is my first time doing body work except for cab corners on my F250.

Grinding down rust spots:

Fitting in patch panels:

Welding in Panels, Primered.  Still need to smooth out the welds.  For a welder I bought a Hobart Handler 140 with 75 25 Argon mix.  Using .023 wire.

And this update brings the project up to date.
