MSFC-398 is a newer Nasa aluminum alloy that has 2-3 times the strength of cast aluminum pistons at 700 degrees. Honda started using this alloy in their pistons in their E-tec motors. This alloy makes for a compression ring land that can be closer the top and for lighter pistons. It makes for some interesting engine ideas

this is something I've wondered about with my Mitsubishis 4G63s; these engines use a cast piston from the factory but rev to 7500 with 20 psi turbo boost.  Very impressive for a cast piston IMO.  I would like to know more about these pistons...

Also, has anyone looked at the newer honda 4s, with AL head, which essentially have the exhaust manifold integral to the head?
