Thanks for everybody's help and your time. I found that the transmision dip stick tub was leaking at the o-ring. I replaced the o- ring  . I put a coating of stop leak for power steering pumps on  the o-ring. I don't know if that was a good idea or not. I have to see but that should have stopped the leak. If not ????????????. When i get back around to it I will have to clean it up there and see if it is still leaking. Easy to get to since I have the engine and entire front end removed due to driver side frame rail completly rotted out

This sucks the dip stick tube is still leaking but now I see where it is leaking from. It is leaking from the "joint" where the small bottom tube is connected to the upper tube. I guess I will braze it shut.

I know this is an old thread but does anyone have the part numbers for the manual control shaft linkage seal and the kickdown shaft seal for the 727 transmission? I think mine is from a 1973 Matador.  I looked online but the pictures don't match the part and counter people look confused.  Is there any specific size for the dipstick o-ring?

Thanks!

I had the same leak that Hurst390 mentioned. I cut off the small cast tang on the extension housing that prevents the pin coming out backwards. With the pan off, you can push it out enough to reveal the O ring grooves. I put on a new O ring and then made a small 90 degree bracket to hold it in place. i wrote an article for our club newsletter about it.

Go to an automatic transmission repair shop. They will know what you want and be able to sell you just the shaft seals. Believe me, if they have been in business for any reasonable time, they know what you are talking about.
