Early July 2019 attended a local "cruise in" with Aussie AMX#24.
Arrived late and as we pulled up noticed a bloke looking at the AMX. Came straight over as we got out, said he had not seen an AMX since 1983.
Turns out in 1983 ( 36 years ago ) he was working on the road from Winton to Boulia in Western Qld.
At that time there was a white AMX crashed on the South side of the road near a creek a few mile Boulia side of the Middleton Hotel.
He said definately an AMX, you can't mistake the black circle on the rear quarter. He was familiar with AMC cars as he lived near an Annand & Thompson dealership (AMI Rambler dealership ) in Brisbane when he was young.
Crash site is about 920km from our place.
Co-pilot and I went out there and looked couple of days ago.
Everything checked out.
There is a creek about the right distance West of the pub. Channels closer, but he said creek. Qld developmental roads were being built in 70's and 80's.
Checked out Qld globe ( Govt aerial photo's ) They did runs out that way in 1974 and 2009. Car could have crashed and been moved between those dates. It's open country and I reckon a two door V8 would be noticed for sure and picked up. Well used road across to NT or down to Birdsville from Boulia.
Alot of grass out there this year though after good rain earlier.
Will go back and look again in a drought year.
Wonder if this AMX was Aussie AMX#21. Pic is crash site area. 24-Sept-2019.
Edit,- Nov 2021.  Definitely not Aussie AMX#21.
Good news is that #21 turned up in South Australia recently.
