I have a neat '64 990H, and the speedometer lights are not working.  The lights on the vertical pillars where the temp. and air control levers are, ARE working.  Speedo. lights were working the other night during a long drive, but now they do not.  Probably a loose wire.  My mechanic was up under there fixing the wiper control pull cable, last week.  Maybe he jostled something?  Anyone have any thoughts? (My mechanic is almost two hours away from me).  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Also, if it is unfixable, as in a break in the printed circuit board, has anyone removed the bulbs that light the speedo, and replaced them with something hard-wired, maybe to a mini switch for simplicity?  Again thanks in advance for any advice...

They just started working again on their own.  I guess these old Ramblers have some Gremlins!

You probably have a loose ground somewhere. The speedo and gauge lights are made into the circuit board on the back of the cluster. The bulbs are in little plastic 1/4 turn holders. One of the wires on the round cluster connector is a ground. Could be that the connector is corroded a little, or the contacts on the bulb holders are corroded. Not hard to fix, but the instrument cluster has to come out.
