bought an AMX and this motor came as an extra.heads on it are casting number 3188558 they have 2.08 intakes valves and and 1.625 exhaust valves, 7/16 head bolts plus an added 4 head bolts per side 3/8 in size , located on the lower edge of the head, no extra marking, square exhaust port. My guess is they are just stock heads that someone has played with any thoughts?

Those are 343/early 390 heads. It sounds like someone put some work into them if they have the extra 3/8" bolts - those are for high compression engines. There could be some port work done as well.

I agree with bigbad69.....the very early 318 8558 heads did not have the "X" cast on the outside of the head.

ok here's the next part, the block casting number is 3190806 which should be and is a 7/16 head bolt block. but with the heads bolted on the block the narrow (68-69) intake is too narrow. did AMC raise the deck height on some of the late 7/16 head bolt blocks. also the heads do have the x cast into them.

The block may have been decked, this will cause fitment issues with the intake. I would suggest taking it to a machine shop and have it checked for square and also check readings to factory specs. Check piston height also. The 8558 heads are 67-69 343/390 square ports with 7/16 head bolts. should be correct for your block, based on the additional bolts added note the engine has been rebuilt at some point. you can buy thicker intake gaskets to use these heads on your engine. but you still need to check block IMO. I recently had a 343 rebuilt and discovered it had been previously machined, however the block had to have additional machining done to square it up. Same problem when it was done, intake didn't fit tightly so we ordered thicker gaskets for intake. alignment of bolt holes is also an issue if block, heads or intake have been machined.
I am no expert here but there are so many variables that its worth having things checked before you sink a bunch money into a build.
