If anyone has ever took a wild guess at sheet metal thickness, Eastwoods ebay store sale has a nice gauge tool on sale for $9.99 with FREE shipping. That's half the price of one from their store.

MODS, if this should be somewhere else move or delete it

18 gage is the standard for auto sheet metal.

Years ago, an old sheet metal worker told me, "the easist way to remember what thickness 16 gage is....just think of 1/16"(.0625") of an inch=16 gage" and 18 gage is slightly thinner. I never forgot that......I guess that's my trivia for todaySmile.
