Upper control arm bushings on AMC go in with the "retainer ring" on the BACK bushing.
The upper control arms are otherwise identical from left to right, the difference being the rear bushing on each side gets the retainer.

the middle of this page shows how I installed new bushings with odds and ends laying around the shop - and a block of wood.
