The specs are nearly always stamped on the face of the drum - where pmm showed, where the balancing weight is, that area.............. and will be numbers like .040 or .060 and so on, perhaps 10.060
Anyway, in your case, the actual spec is now known, 10.060. That according to two sources, Raybestos and one other that lists ALL brake specs including cylinder sizes for wheel and master cylinders.
I can scan and email the page to you if they don't like your word for it.

I'd never machine to that dimension - but that's me, too.
IMO, when a drum hits 10.060, it's throw-away time.
I've got a brake drum gauge at home somewhere, I wonder if there's anything stamped or printed on it about all this. I never paid much attention and haven't used it for many years!

I know it wouldnt be original, but I dislike drum brakes on the front so much that on anything Im going to drive, its going to have disc brakes..........I want it to be understood, this is purely my opinion.  not a fact.  I converted my 72 Gremlin to disc brakes from drums.

Going back into town with my brake drums....will report back. I just want them checked at this point  - they look pretty decent.

Thanks for the input, guys.

I appreciate disc brakes, and, when we bring back the old Wagoneer, will seriously consider converting (it's brakes were lousy)- but I liked the brakes in the Rambler. You had to use some leg on them, but they stopped the beast pretty well.

Update.

The good counter guy at NAPA was there today - he took one look sa the drums and said, "Oh I know what to do with these."  He said they were in good condition and just gave them about a .01 turn.

Digging up an old thread to add a bit of info.
I'm cleaning up and checking the 10 inch drums on my Javelin.
You can find the 10.060 max number at the top of page 10-31 in the 1969 TSM.
The 9 inch number is similar... 9.060. The way the text is presented in the book it was
easy to miss it the first time I was looking. Maybe hard to spot in other TSM's too.
I also could not find any evidence of a max number anywhere on the rotor itself.
Mine looks to be about 10.110 so time for new ones it seems.
