I was wondering what the correct 1968 390 AMX parts are for the coil and the starter solinoid? I will be going to a big swap meet car show this weekend and would like to look for some spares?
Is the coil supposed to be an AC-DELCO? If so what model? Are there supposed to be raised letters and numbers on the outside of the case?
My current one is an AC-DELCO and the raised and embossed numbers and letter appears to be 293 8-R This coil runs really well but as to its originality, I really cannot say.
What is the solinoid make and model?

I don't know how much this will help you, but here is some information.
Coils for 67-72 with V8's could have been stamped with "American Motors" or "Delco-Remy".
The coil stamped American Motors is part #320 2197 which superceded to #320 8863.
The coil stamped with Delco-Remy is part #320 8343 which superceded to #320 8861.
That information is straight out of an original AMC parts catalog printed June 1972.
Hope that is of some help.

Is the delco remy coil without the part number the same as other GM applications of that era? If so there are probably lots of them out there. Personally if I were going to that level of detail in the engine bay I'd look for a coil that had american motors on it!

GM also used the same coil on their performance cars, so it's an in-demand item.

My Gremlin with a 304 had a Delco-Remy coil.......but one of the studs was broken & I took one off a 1970 Chevy Nova with a 307---exact same thing........
