First I'd like to say sorry if I posted this in the wrong section, not sure where the fuel post should go. So I've been working on my 72 Matador sedan and I'm trying to figure out the best lines and where they all go. When I put gas in the car the gas will go down very slowly and then start to come out of 2 lines near the gas tank. It's not coming from the actual gas tank the lines are on the car they have to go somewhere. Thanks for any help

Should be a 3 line tank
Fuel supply to carb
Fuel vapor return from fuel filter
Vapor line to charcoal cannister

I do not know about the Matador tank, (it can't be that different) but the AMC-1 Hornet tank has three lines, the two that come out of the sending unit and one that is soldered to the top of the tank and goes into the top of the tank. That one is the vent.

Well let's see, I have a 1973 Ambassador so if a 1972 Matador tank is the same:

  • Filler neck.
  • Filler vent.
  • Fuel line to the fuel pump.
  • Two vapor vents going to the liquid/vapor separator up near the driver's side rear shock absorber.
  • One vapor vent  going from the separator to the charcoal canister.
