Question:
I need some professional advice, on a 727 TC.... Over the weekend, when checking the Transmission Fluid, on the wife's '74 Javelin, I was able to actually move the Fluid Filler Tube from side to side? It seems to move a couple of inches, back and forth, and actually seems very loose? I do not ever remember the Filler Tube being loose in the past? I am thinking that the Filler Tube should be firmly secured, either by a bolt or bracket, and should have no free-play, and I should not be able to easily move it by hand? So far, I have not noticed any leaks under the Javelin, but will the Filler Tube being loose, cause Transmission Fluid to leak? If anyone have any guidance and/or photo diagram, showing how the Transmission Fluid Filler Tube is properly installed, I would appreciate a reply.

Dickie,
The dipstick tube just push's into the top of the transmission on the right front of the transmission. It has a "O" ring seal that goes around the tube. That is the only seal. There is a bracket on the tube that bolts to the bell housing somewhere along its length. That is most probably what is causing your wiggle. Maybe the bolt has missing or the spot weld, that welds the bracket to the tube maybe broken. Yes, it being loose can cause a leak, there should be no movement in the tube. . Having AMC Fun, Ollie
