The center fill cars were a PITA when new, being so low to the tank, and today, every fill-up is a chore. Especially California vapor-recovery nozzles, which have a peculiar bend that prevents the tube from entering more than a few inches. I stick my ear down next to it to listen but it still gushes almost every time. Even Arizona old-fashioned fill nozzles don't enter all the way, and gas foams up making a mess.

Has anyone ever found or made a new filler neck? Is it similar to AMX/Jav, engineering-wise? I'm thinking that if it were larger diameter, or had a crook in it, it might accommodate modern nozzles, at least. Might require rejiggering the shield in the trunk but that's easy.

I just live with it.......my 66 fills better than my 69. the 66 has venting from the fill pipe but the 69 doesn't.

My 66 with the vent tube fills ok but I am changing it to the later vented cap type because when it is full it lets off gas smell.
