Looking for a bit more bite next year. Wondering if a 10" tire (11.5" section width) will fit the stock '69 AMX wheel well. Looks like it could rub the top of the wheel arch.

Anyone running anything this big or bigger?

Mickey Thompson 26 x 8.5 ET Drag Slicks on 15 x 8 Rims w/ 4.5 backspace cleared easily on my '69.
255/60/15 Radials on 15 x 8 w/ 4.5 backspace Magnum 500's rubbed fender lip on bumps w/ 2 big adults.
255/60/15 radials are 27" OD with 10 inch section width, & had 1-1/18" leaf spring to sidewall clearance.
11.5 Section width is the same as 292 mm section width.
So the 11.5 section width slick with 5 inch backspace I would think would be good.
Question is, what is the O.D. of the 11.5" section width Slicks you are considering ?

There is a YouTube video of a guy who has / had 295/50/15's on an AMX and claims no issues.
295/50/15 tires should be 11.61 Section width and 26.61 inches Outside Diameter.
They are mounted on 'Mopar Cop Rims' and know not what the specs are on those,
but am fairly sure they are or may be technically to narrow a rim for a 295 section, but they fit his car.
Reference the amount of sidewall bulge / tire bead 'tuck' visible in the below video.
My understanding is for the 10 inch tread width slick you want, a 10 inch rim width is ideal,
and a 9 inch rim width is acceptable, and a 9 inch rim with "0" offset should have 5 inch backspace.

This is the video of 295/50/15 on Mopar Cop rims on an AMX

I have an aftermarket 9" axle in my car that's an inch narrower than the stock '69 AMC 20.

The slicks I'm looking at are the Hoosier 18131D06. They recommend a 10" wide wheel. Contact patch is 10" with 11.5 section width. Height is 26.4".

Think I can get away with a 5.5" backspacing and 1/8"or 1/4" spacer.

So the 1 inch narrower rear axle is 1/2" shorter per side between wheel flange and leaf spring?
If so, I think 5.5 backspace will be too deep.
15 x 8 w/ 5.5" backspace and 255/60/15 tires trial fitted on my 1969 AMX left barely ~1/8" to leaf spring.
Below somewhat crappy picture is with 4.5" backspace with tape measure laying there showing the slightly over 1 inch leaf clearance

I run a 26x10 on a 15x10 wheel no problem or rubbing, with split mono leafs in the stock location

Thanks for the photo, it looks good tucked in there.

The Hoosier 26x10 looks like it'll fit it's really a matter of how it's located in the wheelhouse. I'm going back and forth on whether to use a 10" or 8" wide wheel as there isn't a 9" in the style I'm looking at.

Since 8" and 10" widths are my only choices which would give the best contact patch on the ground? 10" I'm guessing.

Thanks,

10" will you give you slightly more contact patch.
Even with a 10" wide wheel the side wall of the tire will protrude past the rim.
