Greetings to the group,

I have had a 71 Javelin 401 SST for twenty-seven years waiting for attention. However, I understand restoration can be a costly affair and would like to find out more information about the car if and before I jump in to the project. If anyone has any information to share about this vehicle, it would be appreciated. It has 72000 miles, is original, and has most of the parts. The grill needs restoration work, the backup lite is cracked, windshield needs replaced, some minor rust around the trunk and windshield, seats, headliner, and carpet need reupholstered, tilt wheel. Ran good when parked. Engine free.

Here is the VIN: A1C797Z220882

Thanks

This is a as good a place to start as any.  Lots of info on the serial and the build codes on the door jamb sticker.  There are several places that sell Technical Service Manuals (TSM) YOU WILL NEED ONE OF THOSE  Good Luck!!

Your website is a good place to start too. I have known about it for years. Thanks for compiling all of the cool information onto one website. One of the first orders of business is to decode the 71 SST.

HI Pablo,

That is a really good link for original information. I have decided to sell my 71 Javelin 401 SST project car and focus on restoring my old 82 Jeep Wagoneer. I would like to export the SST to a good home, so if you know anyone looking, this might be a good project for them.

Best,

JAD

I'd have been a buyer two years ago, but I already bought mine and need another car like a hole in the head. This would be a great car to restore though.  I spent more than $50k restoring my '69 AMX, but that was a concours level show car.  Someone could make a nice driver out of this for a whole lot less provided rust is minimal.

You can still drink beer and look at the picture. Restoration costs are way too high, but I think AMC products will rise in value and it will work out eventually.

I am listing this one on the Sydney craigslist today. My old jeep is an easy cheap resto by comparison. I hope someone who buys this one does a good job and does not drive it.

BTW, I really like Opal GTs and Mantas. They handle great. Have you posted any pics of your cars? I would like to look at them while having a Fosters.

I love Opel Mantas. I bought 2 of them new. One was a 73 Manta Rallye that my ex-wife wrecked, and I replaced it with a 74 Manta Luxus. Later on, I bought a nice used 75 Opel 1900 2 door sedan. Great cars. I haven't seen one in years.
