I wanted to see what people have done for brake calipers.  I'm working on a 70 AMX, and am wondering if its worth rebuilding the original calipers or buying the repops that are available from our AMC vendors.
This car will be a really nice driver, I'm not planning on any racing.  I'm not going for a concours resto.
The car came to me with single piston, vented calipers (looks like the 71 style).  A buddy gave me a great deal on a 4 piston setup (at least I have a set of caliper/hub/rotor cores).  I'm probably going to run aftermarket wheels, so you will see the calipers.  I don't want to hear it from AMC 'Experts' that I've got the 'wrong brakes' when I go to a cruise or show.
Let me know what you have experienced and what you would do if you were doing it again.  I don't want to say money is no object, but i'm not afraid to spend another $200 to do it 'right'.

Have fun,
Mike

I'd stay with the vented Kelsey Hayes brakes. They're better brakes, they're less likely to leak, and if you aren't doing a concours stock restoration, there's no need to listen to any complainers.

Amen, after all it's your car, make it what you want.

Guys, thanks for the input.
I'm not sure that this car will be mine for life, that's why I'm asking for options with the 4 piston calipers. If I do look to sell it, that's when people pick a car apart. Not having a ram air cleaner pan is one thing, but having different brakes is another. Just look at almost any post here about a car listed on ebay or craigslist, people do not hesitate to point out all the 'wrong' things with a car when a guy is looking to sell.
I've always liked the 2 seater AMX, and when it was time for me to get another project, that is what I chose. I'm anticipating enjoying the car and keeping it, but part of me isn't sure.

keep the parts so if someone buys and was to change it back to 4 piston let them have the misery of doing it. i had a 70 with the 4 and had problems getting them to seal. finally got a single one and went with that.

I bought 4 piston calipers from one of the vendors.  No issues with them.

For the record, those Cardone "new" (though they are sold as rebuilt) calipers, appear to be out of stock on line.
AMC vendors may have some in stock, but the $85 Rock Auto, or $87.99 Summit ones are not currently available.

Remember, Calipers Online will rebuild the 4 piston calipers with new, stainless steel piston bores. I have a set on one of my AMX's & according to the previous owner, no leaks in +/- 20 years. Not cheap, but they look original. That said, 2 of my other AMX's have late model single caliper brakes. They work just fine, but these cars will never be judged, just driven.
