If I didn't know any better, I'd think it was factory. Your welding and grinding skills are great. The engine compartment will be a real eye catcher when you're done.

I'll follow these lines a little ways more,
Until I can find what I'm looking for. With the pedal to the metal, I'm gaining my speed. Riding down low in my AMC..... |

The engine compartment turned out great. I'd be willing to bet you're glad you endured the time to bring it to this level. Keep up the good work........

Next is doors and fenders. They are in pretty good shape and fit good so hopefully the hardest part is over. Also will start working on the 401. I have a fairly fresh short block and a new set of heads. Also have a summit 8600, and a torker. Need to get the trans done and will be changing the rear gears from 308 to 355. Should rip pretty good.

It's always good when you can start with body parts that are already in good shape. Was the 401 freshened to stock specks or modified?
The gear ratio should be good. I'm running 3:50 ratio in my 9" and it seems just right for me. Unfortunately, it has "open" gears, but I've been toying with installing a PowerTrax unit. I've been looking at a unit on the Summit website. The best part of it is NOT having to mess with the ring and pinion gears. I'll be watching for further updates......
