Couldn't a 6 groove cam gear cause this additional oil after the rebuild.

Your fuel pump has a faulty seal. You need to take it apart and either stake the seal in if metal clad or glue it in if it is rubber clad. 90% of the aftermarket pumps we get have this issue. The original Carter fuel pumps had a spring that held the seal in place. The new pumps have a different spring that does not retain the seal. That is your problem.

Running 6 quarts of oil is fine. That's what AMC specified for police cars and they used the same pan, just added a simple baffle inside to prevent too much oil from sloshing forward on hard stops. I'm with the others -- look for that oil seal to be loose inside the fuel pump (or missing.. production error?).

had the same exact problem. during the rebuild I cleaned up the oil galley in the cam gear.
Apparently more oil flowing into the cover. Could not stop it. Finally I tapped the vent hole in the fuel pump and put a set screw in it. Fixed the problem, hasn't created any issues. Been driving the car for 5 years now

I would try this. Got the dual action pump V8 pump on my 68 Javelin rebuilt by Then And Now in 2016 and about 12.5 months later I noticed an oil drip coming from the weep hole too late to call them on 12 month warranty, not alot but it still does it. This is the kind of pump used on 67 and 68 cars with the fuel filter in the bottom of the pump.

Thanks.. I have been through 2 NEW Carter pumps and they were both junk and took forever to get. One started leaking oil almost immediately. The 2nd one (after waiting 6 months for it) completely failed and left me stranded with about 5 miles on the pump. Luckily I was close enough to home to walk it. Grabbed old pump and ended up changing it on a side-street so I could get the pig home. Since then, I've kept the old pump that came on the car when i purchased it. It's not a Carter but looks exactly the same. I'll try the fixes above.
