Hi all,

What's the average cost of having a set of leaf springs rebuilt?

I have a 72 Gremlin, it's sitting low on the rear drivers side. The shocks are new.

Thoughts?

thanks,
Kensey

Kensey:

Cheaper to buy a longer shackle if looking for a quick cheap fix.  But it may be a little more tricky with just one low side.  I remember looking at spring re-builds and they were in the hundreds for both springs.  For a a few hundred more you could just get new springs for Eaton Detroit or General Spring or other reputable spring makers.

Always replace springs (or any suspension parts, brakes, etc.) in pairs, whether you get the originals rebuilt or you end up purchasing new ones from Eaton.

Contact Keystone Spring in the Strip District. I've used them for a few different projects over the years, always were good to work with.

New ones aren't that expensive. There are much cheaper places than Eaton --

Eaton price is $249 each. I know people who have used General Spring for other applications with no issues.

I put 2 sets of the Mcveigh's springs (see eBay) on two gremlins this year and was very happy with the prince and quality. I inquired about having my original re arched and found that no spring shops around here wanted to touch them.

I think I paid about $350 for the pair from Valley Spring in Phoenix, AZ. No problems in two years.

I think Gremlins have 2.5" wide leafs like most other AMC's.

If your main leaf on each side isn't damaged,
you could grab a junkyard set of something else that uses the same width (it's the most common width spring),
and rebuild everything under the main leaf in your packs.

Measure the thickness of each leaf you have, eyeball the amount of arch you have, and see what yout stock leafs length/center pin locations are.

Ideally you may find a good junkyard set where the 2nd leaf reaches almost from your Gremlin's main leaf front and rear spring eyes.

I used to burn through Jeep Comanche rear leafs,
and rebuild them under the stock main Jeep leaf with whatever would give me the arch/height and wheel travel I wanted.

I had rebuilt the leaf packs from my Javelin 25+ years ago to keep the tires out of the wheel wells.
Went a little too far back then tho,
& think I had the only 3/4 ton rated Javelin LOL
