I have a 74 AMX with a 360. For some reason the Car is having a pretty Bad Gas Smell, like there is a leak somewhere. The other Day I filled the Tank. I checked for Leaks everywhere and could not find any. Could anybody have any suggestions as to why This is happening? The Smell is always there, but worse now with Full Tank. Car runs Great, but Smell is annoying! Thanks for any Help!

Well, I had the same issue, until I swapped out with a new replacement carb. The original Motorcraft had over 80k and 20 years of use, and needed rebuilt. I assume with modern gas, the issue is more problematic with carbs not checked or rebuilt every 10 years or so.
I could be throttle rod wear and needs replaced and the holes bushed. Never checked further other than visually inspecting for leaks, which none were found. |

Thanks Dude,
I am having my Carb replaced with an EFI system next week. I am hoping that helps, just concerned it might be something else I am missing. |

The charcoal canister may be not working but alcohol and other things in modern gas makes the smell stronger from even one drop!

Check the top of the gas tank. They are prone to rust out; especially in areas that salt the roads in winter. You will need to drop the tank to inspect.

I had a sending unit leak once that was mostly present when the tank was full. It was just seeping out though and soaking into the area around the sending unit but not enough to actually drip onto the ground.
