Hey All, I have a problem. Fuel is shooting up in a cloud out of my Edelbrock 650 Carb when I try to turn over my Gremlin's 304. Here are some changes i made before trying to start the engine, any tips on what I may have missed when i went messing around with it?

1. Replaced Lifters - Covered them in break-in oil
2. Replaced Push Rods
3. New HEI Distributor & Cam gear (Plug wires are in the right order & It's installed in the correct side of the 180)
4. New OEM Fuel pump
5. The Edelbrock Carb has been sitting for about 5 years, worked well before I took it off.

Any help is very appreciated!

Did you clesn out the carb? After 5 years dry I bet there is need for some maintence. Left over fuel not cleaned out will clog things up.

Sounds like distributor is 180 off, did you check to see if it's doing it with the ignition disabled?

+1    If that carb got put on the shelf with any fuel in the bowls, it needs a rebuild.

I flipped the distributor 180 and it had an ignition when i turned the key that shot out smoke from the carb. Then when i manually rotated the cam I could see smoke come out of the carb each time I rotated it. What does that say?

Could be both the dissy being out and the carb. I would first check the needle and seat, because it is likely stuck. You could also look down the carb as the engine is turned. It may be flooding all over the place if the needle and seat is stuck. You probably don't want to have it fire if it is flooding like that.

Whatever you do, have a fire extinguisher handy or the whole problem may be moot!

The 2300 on my 327 is flooding out of the top vent.
I put a 'rebuilt carb on, and that's flooding even worse, so I'm feeling pretty fed up as I want to drive the car.

I read that it's a regular problem with Holleys. Maybe the float/needle set is just not well designed.

Take off the fuel chamber, replace the needle & seat, see here for which one you need
http://documents.holley.com/199r10684rev.pdf
check the float is free and the spring hasn't collapsed.

After you replace the needle/seat, reset the wet fuel level.
