I am having a heck of a time with the cross member that supports my 4-speed transmission on my 390 AMX. I am sure it is my fault but I can't line up the holes on the transmission mount which attach to the transmission without the cross member pushing against shift rods. I may have everything upside down including the cross member and transmission mount. I can't wait until I get my lift installed so I can work standing up instead of on my back.
Any ideas or pictures of how it is supposed to look? |

GremX that is just what I needed. Last question, in the picture which way to the engine and which way to the differential? You can see the transmission mount is only on one side of the cross member.
Thanks again for the help. I know it took a little bit of work to post it. |

Mount is towards front but you will find that out as the engine/trans assembly determines the location

My bet is you have the shift rods installed wrong. Below are pics of my old '70 AMX's T-10.
Hope this helps. -Steve- |

Not meaning to hijack this but what is the purpose of the long rod that runs up to the bell? This might sound dumb to some of you guys but I have never seen that before. Please shed some light on this for me. Thank you. |

That's the shifter lock rod found on '70 and early '71 cars.

A little more of an explanation on the interlock rod. The other end connects to the column much like an automatic. With it connected and adjusted correctly you have to put transmission in reverse to completely shut off key and remove from lock cylinder. And with key out of lock cylinder you cannot take transmission out of reverse.

I do remember that feature in the '70's. Thanks, it just sort of looked strange.
