Does any one here know where I can get a pair of front spring tools to hold the springs for removal? I know how to compress the springs, just looking for the tool to hold them once there compressed? Thanks

I second that, O'reilley does the same, but they are $65 to rent.
I'm always freaked out they will break because they have been used so many times, and they look all bent out of shape sometime. Plus, they are chinese....
Just step to the side when you use them, never directly infront.

Amazing how folks will spend several hundred on heads, maybe 150 or so on a cam, and incredible shop fees to make a go-fast, but so few will get their heads away from Rambler mentality in safety items, including brakes, suspension, steering and tools.
Amazing, simply amazing.............. Break the bank on go-fast, but don't spend 1 penny too much on anything that has the word "safety" attached. In the engine section, figures in the hundreds are common, all other sections, don't speak above about 25 bucks or the tears start to flow! LOL |

Also autoparts store rental tools are for struts not trunnions..there is a big difference in that the strut tools do not encase the spring and hook into the spring cup holes at the same time..I'd just get the right tool or borrow it from a member.

Don't use the Chinese tools on trunnion cars. If you do you may kill yourself or launch a spring through a fender. The correct tools are safe and will not kill you. As long as the spring cups are in good shape the factory style are the ones to use. There are two types. One for the small cars and one for the big ones. 1970 and up can use the rental type as well as all coil spring rears. A freind of mine had a very good Snap On set that launched his spring through his fiberglass fender and busted the roof of his garage open so bad that you could see dayight through the ruptured shingles. This was with a very good tool. It wasnt't the right tool though and it almost killed him. If you are changing front springs you can use a shop press to remove the hooks and re compress the springs so you can put them back on. With the factory style tool you can remove a spring in under a minute safely. But then again, it's your head!!!!!!!
