Does anyone know if there is documentation telling the spring rates for front coil springs on '70 up AMC vehicles?  GM published that info in their parts books but I have not seen any info in either the TSM or the parts books for AMC.

Some TSMs have that info, but often they do not.  Any particular year.  Joe

I have a '71 HOrnet, but I have three sets of springs from different years & models.  They are all different diameter wire.

They could also be different heights. A softer but taller spring will ride at the same height as a stiffer but shorter spring once they are both loaded the same.

Ambassador springs are probably not much stiffer than Hornet springs, but are taller. This would keep the suspension at the same loaded height but would make the Ambassador ride significantly squishier.

I'm not saying they are one way or another. This is just suspension theory that may be of use to you.

From the specs I have seen from multiple sources, AMC front springs typically are around 250-350 in-lb rate at the spring, making for about 90-150 in-lb at the wheel with height specifications varying by several inches.

AMC published that info in the TSMs up through 1969, 70 and later don't have it. You might contact a spring company such as www.coilsprings.com. They have the info, should be willing to share it with you, especially if you need it to decide what springs to order...
