I have a 196 in a 65 770 I just bought it's stuck and I'm wondering if there's a way to unstick it.

Are you sure it's not a 199? (which will look the same as a 232)
Either way, you start with removing spark plugs and squirting some kind of penetrating oil into each cylinder (some folks recommend a mixture of acetone and ATF). You let that sit a couple of days; and then you either pry on the flywheel gear (preferred) or otherwise attempt to turn the crank via the crankshaft pulley/bolt (but do not try to turn so hard that you snap that crank bolt off or you will regret it!). Be patient, you may need to try this several times over a week or two. If that doesn't work, you must disassemble the engine. Good luck! |
