This is not say that one cannot find a well kept Eagle for sale.
Typically though, I think AM Eagles were more popular in places that have salted roads etc (up north) In southern USA, I'd say to check all the unibody drain hole locations at various points underneath the body of the car. When the drain holes cannot drain, there's usually a rust problem. -usually, behind the rear wheel wells, the 'side pockets' in the trunk accumulate small things to clog the drain hole so there will most likely be some rust there. -very typical to find cars that were parked under trees for shade: while those cars may have less sunlight damage to their plastic parts, most likely they will have plant material shed from the tree piled up in the cowl area. On the Grem/Hornet chassis based cars (Eagles) a 'dirty cowl' is indicated by noticeable corrosion activity at the lower edge of the door hinge mounting 'frame' panel; there is the location for the cowl area's drain outlet... ...hmm, another way to say it; -open the front doors and look at the bottom of that vertical 'frame' portion of the unibody where the door hinges attach to the car. The drain holes for the upper cowl area are located there at the bottom of that panel. If it's been ignored, it'll most likely be clogged with some type of debris (dust, dirt, leaves, mouse trash or whatever) ...this is partly because the drain outlet is arguably small, but sometimes the drain outlet there was spot welded shut by a 'Monday or Friday worker'. If the are clogged, there will be noticeable rust forming there -most likely showing orange blisters underneath paint... at the very least/best case scenario. Sometimes the add on body panel trim plates can conceal a horrible rust problem underneath. Sometimes the two lower corner (drain) areas of the windshield are not kept rinsed clean and there can be a hidden rust area right there underneath the fender where it meets the edge of the windshield trim molding. A dirty cowl full of leaves can promote rust to form around the flow through ventilation areas and cause them to drip water into the front floor areas, which will stay wet, hiding under carpet, and cause rust perforation in the floor, right there directly underneath the dash. The bottom two corners of every door are usually harboring active rust for a similar reason; accumulation of dirt moisture and debris, partly from lack of routine rinsing, but partly because they simply trap mud instead of behaving as they should -to be self rinsing with 'normal' car washes and weather activity. Of course, if the car is neglected and left with the windows down, all the lower floor areas (worse in vinyl floor cars) will most likely show active rust happening there (hiding under carpet, if the car even has carpet left...) -basically all about checking the drain holes, and knowing their locations.
