Looking to possibly purchase a set of Patriot shorties and was wondering if anybody out there had a set of these on a small body car,  like Gremlin, Hornet, American.  Just trying to find out about fitment and quality.  Please chime in if you have a set.     Thanxs Lee

From what I understand, they bought the jigs from Edelbrock when Edelbrock discontinued their header line.  The Edelbrocks would not fit small body cars, so I suspect that the Patriot shorties won't either.

Bob,  this is kinda what i figured but i didnt know if somebody had tried to fit them on a small body car or not. Trying to avoid the long tube header route if i could.    Lee

I have a set of the Edelbrock shorties.  They won't fit my 67 American without some denting.  I might have tried on a bare set, but mine are ceramic coated and I didn't want to damage the coating.

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure there was a thread around here somewhere that showed through actual Dyno testing that the original Eddy shorty headers didn't add any significant power gains over the stock cast iron exhaust manifolds. If there was any gains they were marginal... Like 1-2hp and 2-3 ft-lbs. I thought most people who responded didn't think they were worth the money when long tubes made drastically more power all around...

I remember an article also on this:
- free flows were 10 to 15 HP over stock
- shorties 15 to 20 over stock and little difference until above 5000 RPM against the free flows
- long tube 30 HP over stock, but there was discussion on tube size that was used

Don't remember the engine CI or torque figures.

It was an older article so I doubt 1-3/4" o 1-7/8" was tested or any of the newer headers now available.

Many of you already know this, but I designed the AMC/Jeep shorty headers for Edelbrock. I used my 70 AMX for the prototype work, a 69 AMX and a 78 Jeep Cherokee for test fit, but I didn't have access to a small body car during the development process. I did however send a set to a forum member to try on his American. They took a lot of modification for him to get them installed.

To set this record straight: Patriot did not purchase any of the tooling, jigs, or fixtures from Edelbrock, but they did copy our AMC/Jeep shorty header design when we discontinued our header line. The AMC/Jeep shorty headers were our 4th. best selling shorty header so it was a no-brainer and I was happy to help them to keep the AMC/Jeep shorty headers on the market.

So no, neither the Edelbrock or the Patriot shorty headers will fit the small body cars without modifications to both headers, right side strut rod bracket, and the steering shaft.

I am doubtful. I don't see how anything can flow worse than the log style.
