Installing a Airtex electric fuel pump in  a 65 marlin, my question is on installation,  the only place that I can find that fits, is in the front of the rear quarter panel wheel well on the frame, which is below the gas tank, problem is it is three  and half  feet from the fuel tank , if i move it back closer to the fuel tank it will be above the fuel tank. need to know if installing in the place that fits, would be work.

I install mine directly onto the rear axle. As long as the geometry of the tank and pump work together, there should be no problem. The guys that go out onto the trails and get stuck at weird angles makes me question if the fuel pump position really matters.

On the fuel tank strap perhaps:

I think on the frame rail in front of the axle would be fine, maybe above where the floor pan turns up so that it is not as exposed. Personally, I'd stick with a mechanical pump for anything that is street driven.
I've finally given up drinking for good...........now I only drink for evil.

I had one on the "frame" in front of the rear wheel for several years. I strongly recommend both pre and post filters. Also consider a pressure regulator.

After that I switched to an in tank pump.

I had one in the engine compartment of my Jeep, substantially higher than the gas tank, and it worked but would vapor lock from being too hot. I think the location you described will work, it is certainly closer than I had mine.

Works great. So far it hasn't been a problem but I can see why there would be some concern. I need to move this somewhere less vulnerable for offroading weekends or something.

That must be a joke, so many things wrong with that picture. Nice job on the wiring though.

That's not a fire hazard at all.
