I look at garage sales but only occasionally find a good deal on something I need. The sales give me something to do during the day and they are an opportunity to visit with others.

Just do the WHOLE week Ross. You won't regret it!

The 1st year we went, we rolled in on Thursday afternoon to hit the cruise night. It was BARELY enough time to do the yard sales and swap meet on the Friday. Especially after being bagged from the 15 hour drive the previous day.

The next year, we did the drive in a day on Tuesday and had a ton more fun with lots of time to take in all of the yard sales, cruises and other associated events.

Don't short-change on time is my advice.

Chuck.

Thanks Chuck, so it was 15 hours straight through from Prescott? I am looking at taking the ferry, just because, which means I have to get to the eastern terminus at a certain time. I may have to overnight somewhere  in between to achieve this.

Yeah, 15 hours +/- in the Hornet at 70-75MPH’ish. Google Maps says 1300kms. Factor in gas and Timmy’s stops and potential traffic snarls and it’s about 14-15hrs. Ymmv. ;)

I considered the ferry, also “just because”, but haven’t done it. I think if I were to do it, I’d take it on the way home when I could nail down departure timing by being MUCH closer...?

Driving Tips for Travellers from Eastern Ontario:

Take the 401/402 straight through The Big Smoke on the way down. Traffic is pretty good at 10:00AM in Toronto. Pay the $30 and take the FULL 407 (on at Cambridge I think? Off at Whitby) coming home. Saves an hour at least.

Sarnia is better than Detroit for border times.

Take the 294 and avoid downtown Chicago. You DON’T want to go there. :D

Hotels near the Interstate are a great option and are a quick trip to all events. Racine Hotels are also an option. We stayed in Racine in 2014 because we waited too long to book. They’re a bit less expensive but increase driving times to events (15-20mins) and have less tailgating options. I suppose an Uber to-and-from the action is a viable option. We stayed at The Comfort Inn Suites in 2017 and have booked it again this year.

Avoid the Knights Inn of Racine, if the dump is even still open.

I stayed there for Kenosha 2002. It was sketchy even then.

Does anyone have any reviews on the LaQuinta? It is across the street from the Super 8.

I stayed at La'Quita last Kenosha.  If I remember the place correctly is was OK.  That's where I'm booked now...

Well, now that I'm unemployed, I might as well try my hardest.  Still unsure if I'm bringing the Gremlin....
Crossing 7 states in July with no A/C?  I'm getting too old for those kind of adventures.  Prob'ly bringing the Mustang.  This will be my first Kenosha.  Where's everybody staying so I can try and connect with the most folks? Cool

I've found it's easier to call or text folks if you can get phone numbers before the show.
Depending on when you get to town find the meeting place for that day.
