The 301 Pontiac was a bad motor. I owned one. At least they burned oil prematurely. |

My brother had a nice car (for the time), 1981 G-body Grand-Am, with a 301. He bought a 4bbl intake for it and I nearly fell over when I saw it just had 4 ports. Horrible idea, that whole engineering team should have been sent to the mail room to finish out their careers. |

I had a feeling it was a later years casting. Maybe it was intended for Jeep division, since AMC had dropped the V8 on their cars after 79.

I had two sets and they both came out of AMTech. The first set went on a 304 stroker that I built but, I will look at the second set to see if they have the same part number. There is some more pictures in this thread: http://www.ifsja.org/forums/vb/showthread.php?t=95564&page=3

I see the shapes better now with the other pictures. I would not use those heads on my lawn mower. That is a terrible choked up runner if I ever saw one.

The 3 cylinder heads that I have are embossed with 3233344-1 or -2 and have 304 valves in them. I don't know what the part number was on the pair that I put on the stroker engine but this is what Greg said at the time. "These heads are AMC R&D 360
heads. They had 1.787†intake valves and 1.68†exhaust valves
installed, and a swirl-port design. AMC was testing them out to see how
emissions and MPGs could be improved with a lean-burn swirl-port
design. I had hardened valve seats installed on the exhaust side, so
that the smaller 1.50 diameter valve head could be used." I assume he is correct on the valve size but I can't remember. As mentioned all 5 cylinder heads came out of AMTech so I assumed that they were all Research and Development heads.
