I have removed my two piece axles and bought one piece axles. The new axles come with green brand seals. The seal in this picture had rubber on both sides. I have removed the rubber from the outside. Silly question, it looks removable/replaceable. Does it come out?

It comes out and you need that seal. It prevents the gear oil in the axle tube from washing the grease out of the wheel bearing. Pack the bearing with a lot of grease, smear some into the housing, seal it well, and forget it for 150,000 miles.

I suggest applying a THIN film of some kind of sealant to the adjusting shims and outer seal. They don't have gaskets and you don't want grease leaking out or water getting in. It makes disassembly a pain in the neck the next time, but it helps the bearings last longer.

Axle end play is important. End play is adjusted with shims on the driver's side only. I forget the spec. .010" or something like that. The axle shafts butt against each other inside the differential, so you only need to shim one side to adjust the total end play on both shafts combined. I've seen a lot of noisy axles with too much end play.

He has one piece axles no end play shims needed, if they are the green brand bearings they are a sealed bearing.

Dr. Diff one piece axles. Called him up, he is a super nice guy. I used rtv on the outside of the new oil seal. Drove it in with a piece of 2" pvc.

You will most likely have to remove the thrust block in the carrier depending on the length of the new axles.
