These were the OEM headlamps for 1969 and most likely 1970 and somewhat beyond. IMHO these are very poor headlights from a lighting standpoint. From a stock judging standpoint these lamps with the TS logo at the bottom center would be 100% correct. Having said that, for anyone who actually drives their car at night you would be far better served to replace the headlights with a more modern halogen unit like a Sylvania X-traVision or Wagner halogens which for all practical purposes look like a proper OEM headlight. The non sealed beam, replaceable H-4 bulb, "european style" headlights most likely provide even better night illumination and still look somewhat "stock".
These new LED based headlights IMO do not look period correct enough to be used in a car that you wish to keep stock appearing. Having super clean and snug headlight and headlight and dimmer switch terminal connections as well as clean and tight grounds is a must to get the most light from these old systems. For those who have some electrical saavy, using remote headlight relays with a battery feed will insure that you get full charging voltage to the headlights. These relays can be hidden with careful placement. As a matter of note I believe TungSol became Wagner. |

They are poor in part because of the great voltage drop through all of those connections and only 18 gauge wire for feed and ground.
Relays will brighten them up a lot - I posted a chart a while back about how DIM head lamps get with only a half to one volt drop!!! Check, I bet a lot of these cars are running barely 12 volts to the lamps (and the system is running at about 14)

The latest halogen sealed beams that I bought from NAPA don't even say "halogen" on the bulb, only the box. |
