Are bridge type & pivot ball rocker arms interchangable on a '73 AMC 360?

Yes they are interchangeable but not always a good idea.
You don't state what your doing so I'll elaborate a bit.
Replacement steel pivot and retainers are a must for me.
Wear on the rockers may be significant enough to require replacement. Close inspection required.
Close inspection of push rods and lifters are also required. I always go new unless it is a very low mileage engine.
The old rockers sometimes had numbers ,IV, V, VV, there may be more. They were all 6:1 but the IV and V measured up a 0.010" difference from center pivot height to lifter cavity. Should make no difference with hydraulic lifters and many heads came with a mix of both, but I like to keep them as sets.
Hope this helps for whatever you are doing.

Does your 73 currently have individual rockers?  73 was a changeover year.  If you have individual (GM style) rockers, you can't change to bridged, and vise-versa.  If you already have bridged rockers, then yes, you can swap with any other V-8 bridged rockers.  Like stated above, the aluminum bridges are prone to wear, and should be inspected closely if re-using used parts.

I wonder if he's asking if you can swap from bridged to singles, or from singles to bridged, not if you can move them around in the same engine or between engines.
You can't take heads with bridged rockers and use individual rockers on them because the push rod holes are different and you can't take heads without bridges rockers and use non-bridged on the head, again, because of the way they are machined for the rockers.

My friend gave me a 360 engine with a set of heads.  I thought that I brought everything to an engine builder.   The engine builder says that I never gave him any of the rocker arms.  Then I asked my friend what year was the engine?   He can't remember whether it's a '73 or '74.   I believe that '73 was the year that early ones were ball type & later ones were bridged type.  That's why I asked if it mattered. There has got to be a way to tell. Should I look for casting numbers?  If so where? I am new to engine work like this. I am also new to the forum. I appreciate any help I can get.

The holes for the rocker bolts are 5/16" if they were bridged, 7/16"if it had studs.  Casting numbers will tell.  If they were 7/16" studs, you can use small block Chevy studs and go with adjustable roller rockers.
