Do the 70 javelin and amx have the same rear shock mounting ? I need rear shocks and the ones I want list only for a javelin not a amx ?

Javelin rear shocks are staggered, AMX shocks are both behind the axle. Mountings should be the same though.

67 thru 69 Camaro rear shocks are the same as 70 AMX and Javelin rear shocks.
Bayonet top mount, fits over a mounting bolt on the bottom. AMC didn't change the shocks when they staggered the rear shocks on the Javelin. The reason the rear shocks are staggered on a Javelin is so the car could be homologated for SCCA Trans Am racing. Read that Penske and Donohue wanted them staggered for handling reasons. |

The shocks weren't staggered on an AMX is because there wasn't enough room for a production car. That's it, no other fancy explanation

The lower shock mounting plates will differ on the right side as far as Javelin vs. AMX because the Javelin uses the same plate on both sides where the AMX would need a mirror image of the left for the right side.
But the shocks should be the same. To stagger the shocks it was a simple matter of using the same plate on each side........ |

I was looking for the correct shock ,not the set up. I am going with the Monroe # 58510 for a car I drive 2k a year if that, they look like the best value for the dollar.

Yes the shocks are the same Javelin VS. AMX the difference is only in the mounting position.
I recommend Kyb or Gabriel vs. Monroe. I quit buying Monroe shocks because they only last about a year before they completely wear out. Especially on a seldom used car. So far the Kyb shocks I have been using last at least 3-5 times longer. Just beware the Gas-Adjust Kyb shocks are stiffer than most people prefer. The Excel-G shocks are more like the stock ride quality. |
