Two observations,

I guess it's just another manufacturer that starts making things wrong, doesn't realize it,
then isn't interested in correcting the process.

and two,
I just can't get used to that big old 1980's GM HEI perched up front and (almost) center on a beautiful AMC V8.

I know they work great, can be the least expensive solution (tho the DUI's are not inexpensive),
and you can get parts for it anywhere,

but the big old cap just screams "gramma's 4 door 1980's Oldsomo-Buick" to me.

Good luck with the solution,
I would want to grind a tiny bit out of the fork to fit it (vs stretching the ears),
but it sounds like that's not a fix either.

Edit,
I wonder if the manufacturer is using a different hold down clamp,
or if they could recommend one they think works.
From the pics the OP posted,
the stock clamp is just a no-go with the small top lip, and too low bottom lip Confused
