Yep,
AMC

Only negative with that year is it was still Throttle Body Fuel Injection at that point.
Later 2.5L engines (1991 I believe) got Multi Port Fuel Injection, and made more Horsepower.

What are you planning to do with the vehicle?

Is it an auto or a 5spd?

Good luck.

I came across it on Craig's list (just AMC shopping) it was a 5 speed.Dont remember now where it was at.
I've seen Jeep Pickups listed with the Iron duke 4cyl in them. Have had people tell me that some of them had Audi engines in them. Curiosity got the best of me.

My 87 Comanche has the 2.5 AMC engine, not the 2.5 iron duke.

The AMC designed Jeep 2.45L came online late ‘83 just before the XJ Cherokee came out. Sadly the 2.8L V6 was used too until 4.0L came out in ‘87. Mine has almost 220,000 miles on it (it would have done it on the way home but my starter spit out it’s teeth (needs dentures now like me) when I tried to get one last start to drive home before we had a monsoon.
The Renix TBI system is pretty simple to troubleshoot, but bad gasoline and low compression from wear and tear take their toll. I wish mine was 5 speed with appropriate 4.10 gears instead of 3.55 and 4 speed. It wouldn’t have stalled on take off as often.
