    Posted: Jan/04/2017 at 1:15pm
Traded my T-Bucket for a 1973 Javelin AMX that instead of the original 401 has a Chrysler 440. I am working on a 401 build and would like to get input from the experienced people here on the forum.

Info on build plan:

Block: Fresh bore to 45 over from used 30 over block
Pistons: Weisco ProTru 45 over flat top
Heads: Indy 401-SRK aluminum replacement head kit (61cc heads)
Cam: Considering Lunati Voodoo 10100702 hyd (previous part no 64502)
   Duration @ .050 220/226
   LSA/ICL: 112/108
   Intake close: 38deg ABDC
Water/Meth injection: Snow Performance Stage 2 Muscle Car kit
Fuel: race and/or premium (91) with water/meth injection
Compression calculation: 11.2 Static, 10.3 Dynamic at sea level,
9.0 Dynamic at 6500 ft alt. (live at 7000)

I believe the 45 over is pushing it but already picked up two used engines and this is the best block & crank.

Heads are not a good choice for that combo. Either use factory iron or Edelbrock heads.

What is your altitude there?

Not the indy aluminum race heads but the indy aluminum stock replacement heads. Is there a great difference between the Indy Stock aluminum and the Edelbrock?

Altitude here in and around the city ranges between 6500 and 8000 ft (excluding driving up Pike's Peak). I live at 7000.

I wouldn't give Indy my money after reading this:

I liked the Indy heads for the better quench design, slight compression reduction, aluminum allowing higher compression and the cost is the same as rebuilding my iron heads with a good valvetrain. I ended up with new Weisco PT flat tops from one engine purchase so trying to work with limiting the compression a bit.

Sorry, I missed the altitude in the first post.

At that altitude the cam and compression should work fine on pump gas.

The Indy heads will work but I think Edelbrock or iron heads will work better for the rpm you will turn with that combination.

With that set up at 6500' your dynamic should be closer to 8
