Holy moly. Cars, even not moving, can be dangerous! Get well soon.

My current situation. Knee got sandwiched between 2 vehicles so I'll be down for a while. Don't give up on me. I was hoping to get done and make it to Vegas in November

This is what's in my 65 440H with power steering, power brakes;, and air conditioned car. It was like this when I bought it. Did someone change it out or modify it?? Edited by AZ65440H - Aug/28/2019 at 8:55am |

Through 65 all Ramblers used a solid shaft form the steering box with manual steering, and most with power too (the cross-ram type PS used a manual box). The exception is the GM PS box steering, which I think started in 65 on the big cars. For the 66 model year collapsible steering columns were mandated by the government, and AMC bought them from Saginaw (GM) -- so they had to change the steering box to column connection. That may have been a mandated safety feature also -- the rag joint not only dampens vibration in steering column and wheel, it will tear apart in a bad crash and not push the column up into the passenger compartment so much even without a collapsible column. Or it might be part of the collapsible column system...

I thought I'd be able to take the floor shift column out of my other 440H and use it in place of the column shift in this car but NOPE. Who knew the manual steering box connected to the steering column all together different. I know now.

Ollie first let me say the 69 looks great. It seems as if people don't care about nothing but getting paid when hired to do a job. It's definitely a learning lesson for me. I've had issues with fab work, my engine taking a year to be rebuilt and I still haven't gotten the build sheet with cams card, trans cross member having to be remade, the same shop that built my motor put the clutch master cylinder rod on the pedals and made a mounting bracket for the hydraulic throw out master cylinder that has to be redone because they mocked it up with a Wilwood master cylinder when my master cylinder is Tilton. The brackets to small in size to mount the MC even if I could get the MC won't even go through the hole in the bracket. Money ($650) thrown in the trash. They also hacked a square hole in my firewall instead of drilling a round hole for a grommet of some sort. I have noticed that when dealing owners of shops that don't do the work themselves they are the worst. I can go on but I need my morning coffee. Can you tell? I bought a 17000sq ft vacant lot next door to my house that I'll be building me my own garage so I can do as much of my own work as possible. I'm trying to decide if I want to go with a metal building or use four 53ft shipping container double stacked 50ft apart, putting a roof over them and closing off each end and install roll up doors on both ends.

I know EXACTLY what you are saying........ Thru the years, that's what forced me to do more and more on my projects. I figure if I don't like it I can always redo it. But, I do have to draw the line somewhere.......the front end on "The 69" a good example. Having AMC Fun, Ollie
