I recently cut a odd ball spline in a 4 wheeler drive shaft.
I had no hobb and am not going to spend $1000+ for one freebe job. Anyway, using a NC multi axis lathe mill hybrid machine I cut the spline with a 60 degree threading insert indexing the odd angles off center to get the correct angles and diameters. That is how I would do a crank. I shaved the shafts at a .0004 depth of cut per pass. It was time consuming but it made a perfect spline. I am thinking that to shorten the engine try and internal balance the monster, then dry sump it and crank trigger the ignition eliminating the center oil pump and housing. Of course the rear cam still has to be driven in the center resulting in the need for a wet (oil wet) center housing. |

An interesting thread for sure - great work.
A little late and off beat but my first job back in the 70's a long haul truck driver had two diesels in a row with a manual clutch between them. He did the Rockies all the time and stated that the HP up hill and the engine braking downhill were excellent. Once at cruising speed he just went to one engine for the flats. He did Toronto to Vancouver and back in 4 days and always had a long weekend. I'm sure he never broke the speed limit :) |

Well I been driving it, funny thing it sounds and feels like it used to but with less gas pedal force. Then when I step on it, you can feel all that torque.
Here's my new 14 gage stainless steel grill I made. |

Wife should be happy, since it sounds the same. When things get noisey and unweildy, traveling companions become a bit of a grumbly nuisance, until you can drown everything out with a 1500 watt stereo.

I was wondering if anyone would notice. Next year it's getting my Ramblers cheetah valve body and b&m shifter. Got to keep the hand me downs going. |

I can honestly say this project has burnt me out mentally and physically. Glad it's done. Time to go camping and relax. Thanks all for the input and comments, that all ways makes a project fun.
