I saved a 1976 hornet hatch back from being crushed last year. I looked at it for parts and didn't think it was worth the $600.00 Tod wanted for it. So i stewed over it for 4 days and knew he was going to smash it and called him up and the price had went up to $750.00 You snooze you loose. They had got it running and found out it had posse by doing burnies in the parking lot. I DON"T do 6 cylinder cars which this was a black with tan interior 258 auto on the floor power disk brakes ,rally steering wheel,am/fm radio, electric opening hatch, turbine style 14 inch wheels and power steering.
It had some rust out spots and the wind sheila was cracked bad. The doors were barely hanging on and both inside and outside handles and pull strap were broken from the door hitting the jam and didn't close right. I have fixed the door hinges and replaced the windshield and just painted black and am just starting the cut and buff. I have wire brushed and pressure washed the wheel well areas and am installing 8 slot rally s wheels with 15x7 rear with bfg 255/60/15 and fronts 225/60/14s. I will be painting and installing a sc hornet 1971 scoop i bought from Eddie stakes and holes are already drilled in hood and rear window louvers. They will both be flat black. I said 73 look a like because i am installing a 1973 front grill because i like it better than the 76 one. The bigs rear tires and little front should look good and should be able to have one side done tomorrow. Need mcgard lock to get the two wheels off one side. I have the number on the card. Her are a couple pictures of it painted urethane black. I will post pictures when i get it out of garage. Dog

Let me know how the rear tires work out for you. I have 245/60-15 on the back of the Spirit and they rub every time I go over a bump in the road. And the other day my son was in the car with me and they rubbed under the mildest acceleration.

The rear tires are in there snug but look like they are going to work. It is stock height but up in the air a little. I haven't drove it yet. I will let you know. The stock 8 slot 15x7 have over 4 inch back space. Dog

Up date. 8/22/2015. Kato you get it the green hornets side kick. Because he is black. So i painted in my garage were i did the body work and had a coupe set backs.PAINTING !!!!! That place were it is glossy enough but no runs is a fine line. So i had a couple but was able to scrape with a razer blade and use special small blocks kinda like a stone you would sharpen your knife with.Orange peel you bet ya. Wet sanded it with 800 the second day after painting it.In the old days we used 600 but you have to be careful. Then third day sanded with 1200 wet sand and finish fixing runs . Buffed with super duty but need to let sit a day to finish that and get most of color sanding marks out. Then i will finish in micro finish and hand glaze it for now. Frankly i have way to much time in Kato but he is looking fine. Almost show car stuff. Still in shop and hard to get good pictures. Dog

Mr ed. Her is a picture of the 255/50/15 tires on the back. As i said i think the amc factory wheel has 4 3/8 back space and in fact it is with in 1/2 inch of the spring and plan on putting a 1/8 inch spacer on. Dog

Thanks Dog. Looks tight in there. Way back last century, I had E60-15s on my MD Javelin on Machine wheels. There was a Goodyear blem sale at an ARCO station nearby so during lunch I took the car over and after ascertaining the largest 60 series he had was L60-15, I had them try a pair on the rear. They hit the springs. So they tried a set of H60-15 and they cleared so we left them on and I took the L60s home to mount later on a chrome reversed rim that did clear the springs but still fit under the outer wheel lip which meant I could run them at the local drag strip since back then, the rule was in street class, any street tire that fit in the wheel well was OK.

Lookin' good!

Ed. i put some L-60 14 Goodyear poly glass gt raised letter tires on the back with 14x10 cragars of my 1968 javelin sst 290 4 speed car but it did need Gabriel high jacker air shocks. And they did rub some times.Didn't like people in back seat. I am now putting bfg 295/50/15 on it now but the fenders have been flared. I still have that car that i bought in 1971.Dog

DOH! Forgot to mention that. I too had to put Gabriel Hi-Jackers on the Javelin but they only held enough air to clear the wheel opening moldings, just like I have to do to Casper to clear the 245/60-15s on the rear on the 15" Turbocast wheels.
