I got my new trailer in the fall, now I want to put an electric winch on it just in case my AMX is disabled at the track. I've been looking around and there are so many to choose from. So here's my question what do I look for? My car weighs just shy of 3400 lbs. and trailer and ramp angle is no more than a 25 to 30 degree angle when loading. Thanks
Lets go racing!

I bought one of the 2500lb rated ATV winches from Harbor Freight (about $60). I've pulled a disabled but rolling car up onto my trailer with it, probably close to 4000lbs. My trailer sits pretty low and has a dove tail, so the ramp angle is also low. It really doesn't take a lot to move a rolling vehicle. Mine probably wouldn't get something with locked tires on the trailer.

If you need a tool and don't buy it...
you'll eventually pay for it...
and not have it.

X2 on the 2500 Lb. HFT winch!

I have been using the same 2500 Lb. HFT winch for about 20 years now and have had no issues. I have used it hundreds of times and on some fairly heavy vehicles including my J10 desert racer and a J20 a few times. It even pulled my barely rolling 3200 Lb. dirt track car onto my trailer (no dovetail) with 2 flat tires and a bent frame. As Bob said, "it really doesn't take a lot to move a rolling vehicle.

I had a 2000 lb winch from Harbor Freight (Item #61237) that I used on my other trailer and it loaded a Ford Escort and a Mustang with no problem I mounted a ball in the center about 6" in the bed from the front of the trailer. Sold a 1961 Ford Ranchero and all 4 brakes were frozen to drums and the man I sold it to used a Harbor Freight 4000 lb. cable winch (Item #61964) to load on a U-Haul car hauler. That being said I would buy at least a 5000 lb. winch because you never know what you will need it for (It is better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it)

I've got an 8 ton Harbor Freight winch on the front of my trailer that I use with a car battery. Works great. LRDaum

I have a 3000# Harbor freight winch and it has worked flawlessly for many years. Pulls a full size blazer up with no problems. You can remove excess cable to give you a better pull ratio.
