Need to drop the tank on my AMX to have a leak repaired, any hints or watch out fors as I drop and/or re install it?Terry

Obviously, drain the fuel first. Other than that it's pretty straight forward. Remove the straps and lower the tank to the ground. You will just need to push the tank forward a bit to get the filler neck clear of the sheetmetal.

Disconnect the ground wire from the chassis to the sending unit. Disconnect the Yellow wire from the sender and remove from the clips along the drivers side front edge...both will hang you up. Remove the fuel line from body to sender, replace it don't re-use it. Before you try and remove the nuts of the strap hooks, spray them with PB Blaster/WD-40/something, then run a thread chaser over the threads to remove all the undercoating and rust/etc. Spray above the nuts to soak the threads and remove carefully. Some 70's have a vented tank, don't forget to remove the vent hose from the filler neck tank if equipped.

One other question re removal, does the filler neck slide out as you drop the tank or is it attached to it?

The filler neck is soldered in place to the tank on 1968 thru 1970.

once I got mine out I used a tank cleaner and sealer from the local auto parts store and has worked great for over 20 year
