I wish it was my shop, unfortunately it's not.  Although I have a nice garage to work in during the winter (heat, insulated, TV) this is a shop we got to use to shoot the primer.  The wife might complain if I primed the car in our attached garage.

We painted my Rogue in the garage, house smelled like fumes for two weeks.  :)

And regarding the plates, amazingly enough someone in Iowa already had 78 AMX.  I got the lady at the DMV to tell me what city it was registered in but no luck finding anyone around that knows where it is.  There are only 6 78 AMX's titled in Iowa and only 3 with active registrations, mine being the only 4 speed - 258.

Join a club/get your car in a registry so I goes public knowledge (this forum is good too whereas we all know about this car now -witnesses, in case something happens?)

I am so glad for you to get the car and begin taking better care of it.

AMC's  have 'intrinsic value' regardless of what the books might say; it's your life, it's your car & you get to enjoy it (I just sighed when I saw this thread -I think '78s are so great looking) ...possible turbo candidate? Gear Vendors under/overdrive unit? Addco, PST or AMC GT sway bar kit? OMG sweet dreams

The proportions and flowing lines of the Hornet ( and Concord )hatchbacks are just so right. Every line and the proportions cannot be improved. These were the class act of styling in the compact world.
Long time AMC fan. Ambassador 343, AMX 390, Hornet 360, Spirit 304 and Javelin 390. All but javelin bought new.

George w, I could not agree more on the body style. I'm working on numer 8 hornet today.

Tloftus,
Absolutely love this project. Will be following along. My dream is to own the trio one day. 77,78 and 79 AMXs
Got the shifter and it will work great to repop new gates for these shifters. Thank

Looking great. I recall seeing one like it here on the Omaha streets.

Sioux Plating did the bumpers on my '64 and the trailer hitch. Great workmanship and priced right.

Thanks guys!

I ordered and received my new tires.  I think I'm going to put them on the turbine rims once I have them cleaned up and re-painted.

I think they are a bit big but it looks like they'll fit and with the flares will fit right in.

Any other thoughts / opinions?  They are 225/70R14's.  The price was right, got them on special for $72.50 a tire (plus mounting / balancing) from Discount Tire Direct online.

In my mind, these cars scream for a little decklid spoiler akin to that off an AAR 'Cuda or T/A Challenger. Funny how I don't think the same thing for the Hornet hatchback.
