New to the site, but here is my project. 64 Rambler 2 door. Just got it last Wednesday and I got the motor running this weekend and stripped the entire interior down to the steel. Has some wiring issues that I hope to work through this weekend. I also have a 64 Rambler Classic 550 4 door for parts or as I see it, practice.  Here are a few pics.

Sweet ride!  If you ever feel the need to convert to a Gen 1 V8 (250/287/327) I have the correct engine crossmember out of a '64 along with most of the pedal to carb linkage.  Mine is also the same color of blue as yours.  '64s are my personal favorite (I have 2).Thumbs Up

Right now I'm going to work with the motor that is in there right now. With the spare car I have two Straight 6's . What I do need is some really good seat covers or newer seats and carpet.  it is a shame, the vinyl is almost perfect, but the cloth on the front seat is rough. The bucket seats that are in there don't belong at all so i'm not going to put them back in the spare car.

If you want the stock interior fabrics and you are prepared to spend upwards of $80 a square yard, contact SMS Auto Interiors in Oregon with the trim code off of your door tag.  If the vinyl is usable and you only need the fabric the cost might be moderate.  I think it takes about 4 square yards for fabric inserts on bench seats.  Buckets might require less.  The customer service rep at SMS will know how to estimate the quantity.  I think they can sent swatches to confirm the pattern before you order.  Joe

Is it just me or is the 64 2 door Classic 550 a rare breed? I have been all over this forum and no one is talking about them or even looking for parts. Kind of scares me that this is the AMC that I'm starting with.

Pacerman,
Thanks for the info. I have the original bench seats from the donor car and it is only the fabric that is bad. This might be an option. I'm going to check the a guy in town to price it out and to keep the local guys working. If I'm going to do it I'm going to do front and back seat so i won't have to try to match the material.

They produced 6,454 of the 2dr 64 Classic 550's so it really isn't all that rare. Being at the bottom as far as trim level goes I guess it wasn't all that popular. Mechanically it's identical to the 660's and 770's. When you get out on the cruise night and car show circuit you'll find that ALL Ramblers are rare as is anything else made by AMC. You'll surely never park next to another one like you could with a Mustang, Camaro or Tri-5 Chebbies. Don't be scared, be proud !!

Anyone help with the identification on this? I think the block is 195.6, but is there any other spot I should be looking.

These numbers are to the left of the casting numbers.
